Brief

964media.com, a prominent news agency delivering local news in Arabic, Kurdish, and English, sought to enhance their digital presence by creating a live news stream on YouTube. The goal was to design a dynamic and engaging digital news screen that could showcase various types of content—videos, headlines, weather updates, and more—while maintaining a sleek, professional look.

The challenge was to create a versatile screen layout that could accommodate different video formats and aspect ratios, all within a tight deadline. With only one day left in a design contest, the pressure was on to deliver a solution that met all technical and aesthetic requirements.

Technical Requirements

The client needed a digital news screen that:

• Aspect Ratio: Designed for a 16:9 layout with the ability to handle square (1×1), vertical (9:16), and other formats like 4×5.
• Resolution: Available in HD (1920×1080) and 4K (3840×2160) versions.
• Widgets: Included real-time elements such as news tickers, weather updates, currency converters, and feature stories.
• Branding: Followed 964media.com’s color scheme and design guidelines, with a focus on clean, modern aesthetics.
• The screen needed to be both visually appealing and functional, with clear display areas for all content types and smooth transitions between them.

My Creative Proposition

To tackle the design challenge, I proposed a grid-based layout that would maximize screen space while keeping the design clean and organized. The layout featured distinct areas for each type of content, including:

• Main Video Section: Centered and adaptable to different video formats.
• Scrolling News Ticker: For real-time headlines.
Widgets: For weather, currency, and prices.
• Feature Stories: For in-depth coverage with text, photos, or videos.
• QR Code: Prominently displayed for app downloads.

To ensure a professional look, I used cross-fade animations for transitions between content segments, which helped maintain a sleek and modern aesthetic. Subtle, looping background animations were included to add a dynamic element without distracting from the main content.

Design Process

Given the tight deadline, I focused on delivering a design that was both versatile and visually compelling. I created multiple layout variations to accommodate different screen formats and tested these to ensure that all elements remained clear and functional. The design was aligned with 964media.com’s branding, using their color scheme and design guidelines.

The mockups provided included detailed variations for both Arabic and English content, ensuring that the design could easily adapt to different languages without requiring significant adjustments.

Client Feedback & Final Design

Upon submission, I received positive feedback from the client, who appreciated the clean layout and effective use of space. They requested minor adjustments to the ticker animations, which I promptly incorporated.

The final design included:

  • A central video section capable of displaying various video formats.
  • A scrolling news ticker for real-time updates.
  • Widgets for weather, currency, and prices.
  • A QR code for promoting the 964media app.
